Patton is a friend of Ricken Hale.

History[]

Patton came to Ricken's food-less dinner. He said that people overlook that life isn't food. Food is just fuel. When he learned that Ricken's brother-in-law, Mark was a former history professor teaching primarily about World War I, he said he'd just read something about how people actually called it the Great War and calling it World War I would have been a faux pas. Mark pointed out that it wasn't called World War I until after World War II had happened. When he learned that Mark worked for Lumon after leaving his teaching job, Patton asked if he knew all the dirty secrets, leading Ricken to reveal that Mark was severed, meaning he didn't know anything about what went on inside Lumon. When Danise asked about the procedure, Patton explained how it separated a person's memories into two. Mark took issue with Patton's assertion that the severed individual was trapped at Lumon, leading Ricken to redirect the conversation. They all decided that they stood behind Mark despite the controversy of severance.[1]

Patton later attended a party at Devon and Ricken's where Ricken planned to read from his new book.[2] At the party, he and Danise discussed whether or not Devon should have waited until after the party to introduce Eleanor. Later, the party was interrupted by Eleanor being briefly believed to be missing. Patton joined the search and claimed credit when Mark found Eleanor in a room, picking her up and returning her to Devon.[3]

Personality[]

Patton is a pretentious character who presents himself as an erudite and academic, but tends to say things that come across as naïve and odd.

Patton appears motivated to impress his friend, author Ricken Hale.

At Ricken's book reading, Patton is quick to take sole credit for finding Devon and Ricken's infant daughter.

When Ricken's book reading was interrupted by Eleanor disappearing and Innie Mark, Ricken ended it early and escorted everyone out, saying he'd let them know if he did another one.[4]

Relationships[]

Patton has a friend in Lima who also does food-less dinners.[1]

Quotes[]

"Good News About Hell"

  • Patton: "No, what a lot of people overlook, I think, is that life is not food."
  • Patton: "Okay. Well, I got one for you. I was just reading this think piece about the comparative levels of violence and warfare throughout history. War porn, I know.

But anyway, in it, he said that the people actually called it the Great War. Apparently, it would have been a faux pas to have called it World War I."

  • Mark: "Well, you know, no one would’ve called it World War I ’cause World War II hadn’t happened yet."

"The We We Are"

  • Patton: "Mark, we were just discussing whether it might have been a wiser move for your sister to put off introducing the child until after tonight’s event."
  • Patton: "Devon! I got her! Devon, she’s here! I found her. I found your child. I’m the one who found her!"
